Fun fact to know about Elon Musk. And this is only for Tesla . Don't know what he will get for SpaceX or other companies.
Musk gets no salary or cash bonus.
Instead, he can earn up to about 424 million Tesla shares (split into 12 equal parts) if Tesla hits big long-term goals over roughly 10 years.
Each part unlocks only when two things happen together:
Tesla’s market value stays above a set level (starting at $2 trillion and rising step-by-step to $8.5 trillion), and
Tesla hits one of 12 operational targets.
These include delivering 20 million vehicles, getting 10 million active Full Self-Driving subscriptions, delivering 1 million robots, putting 1 million robotaxis into commercial use, and reaching rising profit levels (up to $400 billion in adjusted EBITDA, measured over separate periods).
Higher share blocks need more of the operational targets plus higher market value. The last two blocks also need a board-approved CEO succession plan.
None of the 12 blocks have been earned yet.
Even if a block is earned early (for example in 2026 or 2027), Musk cannot freely sell those shares for several more years, and he must stay in a leadership role. If all goals are met, the package could be worth around $1 trillion at a high stock price.
