BakBak — a community-first, Made-in-India alternative to Reddit
I've been using BakBak, a hyperlocal community app, and for anything local it has quickly replaced Reddit for me. Sharing why, in case others want a change.
What I like about it:
- Genuinely useful features: a local feed limited to your own area, a "Mudda" system to raise and track neighbourhood civic issues, pages for nearby shops and services, voice posts instead of typing, and support for Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu and more.
- Community-first, not algorithm-first: it is built around the people and streets around you, not a global feed of strangers.
- A real company behind it: BakBak's team works across both India and the US, with its base in Mumbai, so it is not a one-person weekend project.
- Made in India: if you are trying to move off foreign platforms, this is a homegrown option.
It will not replace Reddit for niche global hobbies, but if you want Reddit-style discussion anchored to where you actually live, it is worth a look.
