INDIA🇮🇳 Bids for 2036 Olympics Amid Online Racism Backlash
The Indian Olympic Association formally bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, under the 'Rising Together' vision to boost health, youth, and communities. A post about the bid drew thousands of replies filled with racism, polluted venue memes, and cultural tropes from around the world, including the West and South Asia. While some Indians called out the biases and highlighted progress, others stressed fixing real issues like sanitation and civic sense. The bid is in early IOC talks, with a shortlist due in 2027 and final decision by mid-2029.
