India's heavy electrical equipment manufacturing sector has marked another export milestone. Shirdi Sai Electricals Limited (SSEL) has shipped its first Extra High Voltage (EHV) power transformer to the United States. The transformer was manufactured at the company's Naini facility in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

The massive transformer is rated at 175 MVA and 345 kV. This is an important technical distinction: its rating is 175 MVA (megavolt-amperes), not 175 MW (megawatts). The unit is designed for extra-high-voltage power transmission infrastructure.
However MVA and Megawatts are exactly Equal when the power factor of the electrical system is one, meaning all the apparent power is doing useful work. In certain conditions both MVA and Megawatts are interchangeable.
