Indian benchmark indices continued to slide, with the Nifty falling for the eighth week in a row to close at 22,422 — down 3.1% for the week. Foreign investors remained net sellers for the 15th consecutive month, offloading shares worth ₹44,010 crore in September alone, while domestic institutions bought ₹76,030 crore. Bank Nifty declined 2% during the week; Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap fell 3.6% and 3.4%. Market experts point to elevated US bond yields, firm crude oil prices and global uncertainty as the key drags. The RBI's Monetary Policy Committee meets 5–7 October, followed by the 57th GST Council meeting on 7 October.
