Bharat 🇮🇳 has secured the prestigious Nona Gaprindashvili Trophy, awarded for the finest combined performance in the Men's and Women’s sections of the Chess Olympiad. Established by FIDE in 1997, the trophy commemorates Nona Gaprindashvili, Georgia’s legendary chess pioneer and Women’s World Champion from 1962 to 1978, whose trailblazing achievements helped elevate women’s chess internationally. Its purpose is distinctive, rather than honouring one individual result, it recognises the federation demonstrating the greatest collective excellence across both Olympiad competitions. India’s triumph therefore signifies remarkable depth, consistency, and competitive strength throughout its chess establishment. Five time World Champion Vishy Anand presented the coveted award, lending further grandeur to the occasion. His gesture celebrated not merely victory, but India’s continuing transformation into a formidable, inspirational power in global chess.
