Researchers have developed a groundbreaking optical fiber by freezing a liquid-core capillary to -196°C (-321°F) using liquid nitrogen, creating a dense, highly confined solid core that dramatically enhances data processing capabilities. Published in the journal Optica, this joint breakthrough by the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL), Leibniz University Hannover, and IPHT Jena unlocks entirely new ways to manage data using both light and sound.
